18 Jan – In a weekend where Malaysian titles "Adnan Sempit" and "Tiger Woohoo" are making waves (Jan 14-17), the amazing record-breaking run for "Avatar", now nearing a worldwide total gross of US$ 1.6 billion, is futher enhanced by it winning the most coveted prize at the just concluded 67th Golden Globes Awards in Beverly Hills, California. The sci-fi epic took Best Motion Picture (Drama) and also a Best Director bonus for James Cameron, who is now responsible for the two highest grossing films of all time, as the visually stunning picture nears the US$ 1.8 billion mark set by "Titanic" in 1997. He did however say he expected to lose out to his ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow's powerful Iraq war drama "The Hurt Locker". The win is seen as a significant precursor to the upcoming Academy Awards. "Avatar" is still going strong at the Malaysian box office. Meanwhile, the night's lifetime achievement award went out to renowned filmmaker Martin Scorsese, who is responsible for some of the most memorable films of all time such as "Goodfellas", "Taxi Driver" and "The Departed". He took home the Cecil B. Demille Award, an accolade previously held by distinguished industry contributors such as Alfred Hitchcock and His next film that will reach Malaysian cinemas is the Leo DiCarpio thriller "Shutter Island", opening 25 February 2010.
