8 Apr – Imagine Entertainment confirms that they are looking at Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem, to play troubled hero Roland Deschain in their adaptation of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower", producer Brian Grazer told TheWrap. "Javier Bardem, that's what we're hoping for. We're in the process of trying to put that together. He's locked in psychologically. He really wants to do it, so we're absolutely rooting for him to do it." The "No Country For Old Men" star that was last seen in "Biutiful", has been offered the lead role in the horror-fantasy-western adaptation, shattering any initial rumours that fan favourite Viggo Mortensen was offered the part. The adaptation that is considered as Stephen King's "magnum opus" by many, and also King himself, tells the story of a lone gunslinger in a post apocalyptic western world, which will be directed by Ron Howard. The adaptation is envisioned as three feature films, with two seasons of TV series to accommodate King's fantasy epic that spreads across seven published novels. The first Dark Tower film is currently scheduled for a 2013 release with production expected to start this September.
