25 Apr – Robert Pattinson has apparently expressed interest in portraying the late singer/songwriter Jeff Buckley in a potential biopic and has met with the tragic star's mother in hopes to play the alternative rock artiste's in a new potential biopic, reports Gigwise. The "Twilight" actor, who has met the musician's mum Mary Guitbert, who coincidently is also the executive producer on the project, reveals he's interested in portraying Buckley on the big screen even though he accepts he'll never be able to match his hero's talents. He says, "I met his mum [Guitbert] who's really great. I don't really think I can sing like Jeff. I love Jeff's music. He was amazing. He was unique. Also, I can't play guitar like him either." "It [film] would involve quite a lot of work. If someone just imitates Jeff's voice, it wouldn't be right. It's always about the script," added Pattinson. Regarding the meeting, Mary Guibert told The Daily Express, "Robert is a fine young actor. I'm flattered he's been linked to this project. When the time comes we'll give everybody an opportunity to be seen and heard."
Other actors rumoured to be in the running for the role includes Jared Leto ("Requiem for a Dream"), James Marsden ("Hop") and "127 Hours" star James Franco, who is a current fan favourite to play Buckley. Jake Scott, director of "Welcome to the Rileys", secured the rights to make the movie, while also signing all Buckley's music rights, according to a report in the Huffington Post. The film is expected to tell the story leading to Buckley's tragic drowning in the Memphis river in 1997. Throughout his tenure he had only released one album, "Grace," but his rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" remains popular to this day, and is often used as a soundtrack in TV series and movies.
