10 Feb – An MBO cineplex with 8 halls will open at Space U8 in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam before 2012, making it the very first in Shah Alam.
The Edge Property reported that the RM200 million mall is currently 90% complete and will open in June 2011, while MBO Cinemas have confirmed that the 1,300-seater location will be the chain's 12th outlet nationwide, although they cannot reveal precisely when the cinema will be in business. It is believed the cinema will play 3D movies as well. Mainstay Development executive chairman Raja Mohd Azmi Raja Razali said the mall, which is currently 50% tenanted, will host Shah Alam's first ever cineplex and that he expects Space U8 to be 70% to 80% occupied by the time it opens. Back in 2005, early efforts for a cineplex were shot down when then Shah Alam mayor Ramli Mahmud announced that it is a state policy that no cinema can be built here and that the policy extended to all types of entertainment premises in the state capital.
