Adam Sandler in his double role as twins in "Jack And Jill", for which he earned seven Razzies nominations alone. |
1 Mar – With 11 nominations for the Razzies, which is an Academy Awards spoof site that singles out the worst movies of the year, last Saturday, 25 February, American actor-comedian Adam Sandler had officially broke all the records for the event, according to Fox News.
The 46-year-old actor received lashings for not only one, but three movies, all of which were released in 2011, and in which he served as the star, producer or writer. The movies were "Jack And Jill", "Just Go With It" and "Bucky Larson: Born To Be A Star". This is doubled the record of the previous holder, Eddie Murphy, with five Razzie nominations for 2007's "Norbit".
Sandler's nominations consisted of Worst Actor for "Jack And Jill" and "Just Go With It", Worst Actress for "Jack And Jill", in which he played his own twin sister, Worst Screen Couple opposite Jen Aniston and Brooklyn Decker for "Just Go With It" while for "Jack And Jill", it was opposite Katie Holmes and Al Pacino.
As a producer, Sandler was also credited with nominations for Worst Picture, Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel for "Bucky Larson" and "Jack and Jill", while as a writer, he earned Worst Screenplay, shared between the two movie mentioned previously, and Worst Ensemble for "Jack And Jill".
According to Razzies' founder John Wilson, "It's almost karmic for someone to have made that much razz-able stuff in one year. He has angered someone really powerful, I would say."
However, despite its numerous 'Worst' awards, "Jack And Jill" is not alone in the category. It led with 12 nominations, while Michael Bay's "Transformers: Dark Of The Moon" came second with nine, followed by Stephanie Meyer's "Breaking Dawn" with eight.
Fellow runners for the Worst Actor Award are Nick Swardson for "Bucky Larson", Russell Brand for "Arthur", Taylor Lautner for both "Abduction" and "Breaking Dawn", and Nicholas Cage for "Drive Angry", "Season Of The Witch", and "Trespass".
For worst actress, Sandler is joined by another cross-dressing actor, Martin Lawrence for "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son", Sarah Palin for her documentary "The Undefeated", Sarah Jessica Parker for both "I Don't Know How She Does It" and "New Year's Eve" and lastly, Kristen Stewart for "Breaking Dawn".
Traditionally, Razzie nominations were announced on the day before the Oscars' nominations, while the winners will be announced the night before the Oscars. However, this time the members of the Razzies' panel decided to postpone their ceremony to April Fool's Day instead.
