"Artist" is big BAFTA winner

"The Artist" celebrating their win at the BAFTAs.

13 Feb – Emerging as a big winner at last night's BAFTA (British Film Academy Awards ) ceremony held in London is "The Artist", which apart from winning Best Film, was honoured with 6 other wins.

Michel Hazanavicius was crowned "Best Director" and leading man Jean Dujardin snagged the "Best Actor" award for his performance in "The Artist". The other wins celebrated by the French silent film, are Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score, Cinematography and Best Costume Design.

17-time Oscar nominee Meryl Streep won Best Actress for her political portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady".

Cuba Gooding Jr. who was presenting an award for Best Special Effects, paid tribute to singer Whitney Houston. In reference to one of her popular song, Gooding Jr. said, "Whitney, I will always love you."
