Ashley Tisdale, who is known for her girl-next-door roles, is set to join "Scary Movie 5".

7 June – "High School Musical" star Ashley Tisdale has been confirmed to be playing one of the lead characters in the next instalment of the well-known horror parody series, "Scary Movie 5", according to ComingSoon.net.

In its fifth instalment, the horror comedy parody will see Tisdale team up with director Malcom Lee ("Undercover Brother", "Soul Men") and meanwhile David Zucker, who is best-known for directing "Airplane!" and two "The Naked Gun" movies will be back as co-writer and producer after having written and directed "Scary Movie 3" and "Scary Movie 4".

The "Scary Movie" series has grossed over $800 million worldwide since its first movie release way back in 2000. The new film will begin its shooting this summer and is expected to be released on 11 January 2013. It will be distributed by Dimension Films.

Besides having Tisdale joining the cast, there have been rumours that the film's recurring stars, Anna Faris, Regina Hall and Anthony Anderson, might make their return in "Scary Movie 5" to reprise their respective roles.

Tisdale first rose to stardom with her role as Maddie Fitzpatrick in Disney Channel's "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody". This was followed by her role as the female antagonist Sharpay Evans in the "High School Musical" franchise alongside lead stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. In 2009, she had her first major broadcast role in The CW's television series "Hellcats" as the cheerleader Savannah Monroe.
