5 June – It is time for the black suits of the "Men In Black 3" to step aside because white is the new black in the box office. "Snow White And The Huntsman" has proven itself to be the fairest of them all this week, despite it being the second adaptation of the Brothers' Grimm tale that we have seen this year. However, when Rupert Sanders' grittier take on the classical fairytale comes with an ensemble cast consisting of Charlize Theron as the evil queen Ravenna, Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman and gorgeous visuals, it is not surprising that it netted itself an opening weekend gross of US$56.2 million in the United States alone. This figure is almost five times higher than the domestic opening weekend of its Relativity counterpart, "Mirror Mirror", and nearly the latter's entire domestic run so far. The top three box office line-up is rounded out by "Marvel's The Avengers", which is still going strong, according to Box Office Mojo for the weekend gone by (31 May – 2 June). "Snow White And The Huntsman" also saw the princess' forces take lead in Malaysia's box office charts, and regulated "Men In Black 3" to second. However, contrary to America's box office records, Joss Whedon's superhero epic is not sitting in third place but "Piranha 3DD", the sequel to "Piranha 3D", both of which are directed by Alexandre Aja. The film may have moved its setting from Lake Victoria to a waterpark, but the piranhas are back with double the vengeance and double the Ds. Similarly, in Singapore, "Snow White and the Huntsman" heralded into top spot above "Men In Black 3", while "Marvel's The Avengers" slipped into third spot. Movies that opened in Malaysia last week were "Piranha 3DD", "Man Sewel Datang KL", "Gerimis Mengundang", "Thadaiyara Thaakka", "Rowdy Rathore" and "Mayanginen Thayanginen". Movies that are opening in Singapore are "Life Happens", "Bad Girls", "Din Tao: Leader Of The Parade", "Second Chance", "I AM: SMTOWN Live World Tour in Madison Square Garden" and "Rowdy Rathore".
