26 June – Last week, Pixar's 13th animated entry titled "Brave" courageously entered the fray full of box office blockbusters and struck bull's eye, taking the top spot for the 13th consecutive time since their critically acclaimed film franchise, "Toy Story". According to Box Office Mojo, the animated fantasy adventure's entrance was nothing short of grand, as it charted a weekend gross of U$66.3 million, and sent "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" back into the cage, the cage being second place here, for the period of 21 June to 24 June in the U.S., while fellow new entrant "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" slayed its way through throngs of blood-thirsty or rather, status-thirsty competitors to third. Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, "Brave" is set in the highlands of 10th century Scotland, and follows the story of a skilled archer and princess named Merida, whose strong-headedness leads her to defy an age-old custom, causing chaos in her kingdom. After consulting a witch for help, her family becomes cursed and Merida is forced to undo the spell herself before it is too late. However, the 16th President of the United States by day and axe-swinging vampire hunter by night managed to held sway in Malaysia's theaters to clinch the first spot for its opening weekend from the impulsive princess Merida. In second place comes Ahmad Idham's new entry, "Mael Lambong", which tells of a drifter named Mael (Zizan Razak), who saves Juliana Evans' damsel in distress and escorts her to Terengganu, while warding off the mob members that are hot on their heels. Rounding out the top three is Dreamworks Animation's "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted". Things are even more different in Singapore, with Alex the Lion still the king of the box office while Sacha Baron Cohen's "The Dictator" maintained its second place from last week. Among the new entries, only the Japanese remake of the Japanese classic horror, "Sadako", managed to creep her way to third during its first weekend, scaring off the crew of the "Prometheus" to fourth. Movies that opened in Malaysia last week were "Hanya Aku Cinta Kau Seorang", "Teri Meri Kahaani" and "Saguni". On the other hand, movies that opened in Singapore last week were "Battlefield America", "How I Spent My Summer Vacation", "Snowfall In Taipei", "The Moth Diaries" and "Teri Meri Kahaani".
