Cinemas affected by Bersih 3.0?

TGV KLCC is located at the heart of Kuala Lumpur where certain roads are expected to be blocked.

27 Apr – Following the announcement of road closures today, 27 April for the Bersih 3.0 rally tomorrow, 28 April, at Dataran Merdeka, moviegoers and cinema patrons who are worried about possible movie suspensions for their pre-purchased tickets need not worry as cinema exhibitors have confirmed that business is as usual today.

According to GSC's Marketing Manager Tan Gaik Lian, "So far we have not seen any serious traffic jams due to the road closures, so business is as usual for us today."

She added, "We will be informing the public of any developments through GSC's Facebook and Twitter, as well as Cinema Online, so stay tuned."

For the uninitiated, Dataran Merdeka and all roads leading to it will be closed from 6am today to 6am on Sunday, which may also affect the journey to cinemas such as TGV KLCC, TGV Capsquare, GSC Berjaya Times Square and GSC Pavilion, all of which are located at prime areas in KL. Coliseum Theatre, which is also in the vicinity, will remain unaffected as it has been closed for renovation until further notice.

The last rally for Bersih 2.0 a few months back saw cinemas in affected city areas offering refunds to moviegoers who couldn't make it for their shows due to the road blocks.

The aim of Bersih 3.0 is to raise Malaysian citizens' awareness of issues involving the environment, religious rights, 1Care health insurance scheme and corruption to electoral reform and free education.

Like the earlier two rallies, the roots of these issues are the lack of better governance and greater consultation with Malaysians.
