19 June – "Paper Moon", the made-in-Malaysia Chinese movie has been confirmed to be joining the list of foreign film entries in the 15th Shanghai International Film Awards, which is happening in Shanghai now from 16 to 24 June before its release in Malaysia, according to Sin Chew. Double Vision's "Paper Moon" is directed by Stanley Law, who recently headed to Shanghai for the film festival's launching ceremony together with his female lead, Chrissie Chau Sau Na. The film has been slated for three screening sessions at the event. According to sources, Bona Film Group Limited's sub-division, Distribution Workshop, will be responsible for the international distribution and promotion of the Malaysian film, after turning in good work for Andy Lau's "A Simple Life" and Tsui Hark's "Flying Swords Of Dragon Gate" earlier this year. However, there is still no information of the official release date of the drama in Malaysia, and it is reported that Hong Kong distributors are planning to release the film in Hong Kong cinemas simultaneously with cinemas in Malaysia. If that is so, "Paper Moon" will mark Malaysian film history as the first Malaysian movie to see a Hong Kong release together with a local release. "Paper Moon" is inspired by the Malaysian traditional kite or 'wau bulan', and stars Hong Kong star Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Chrissie Chau Sau Na, local singer Tedd Chan Kwok Fai ("23:59") and singer-songwriter Rynn Lim Yee Chung ("3X Trouble). It is one man's conflicted love story; Tiansong is a kite maker who regrets not telling his first love, Shiqin, his true feelings before she left, until one day, her daughter comes looking for the man who hurt her mother. The arrival of Manhua stirs up Tiansong's emotions because Manhua looks exactly like Shiqin but things are not always as they seem. The film was shot in Kelantan, Malacca, Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur.
