6 Nov – While Hurricane Sandy wrecked real life, in cinemas; it was Walt Disney Pictures' "Wreck-It Ralph" that wrecked the box office records over the weekend (1 – 4 November) in the absence of Sam Mendes' "Skyfall". Contrary to its 1 November release in Malaysia and Singapore, the 23rd Bond film will only open in U.S. cinemas on this week, 9 November. As a result, "Wreck-It Ralph" easily took first place with US$49.04 million, which is the highest opening weekend ever for an animated Disney movie, even ahead of "Tangled". Rich Moore directs this 3D computer-animated comedy film about a 80s-era arcade game villain named Wreck-It Ralph (John C. Reilly), who has grown tired of playing the villain and dreams of becoming a hero. Ralph decides to rebel by leaving the game and travels between games in the arcade, but ultimately, Ralph must eliminate a dire threat that could affect the entire arcade, who is also one that Ralph may have inadvertently started. Denzel Washington's "Flight" came in second while "Argo" came in third. The former is directed by well-known director Robert Zemeckis, and revolves around the investigation of an airline captain named William "Whip" Whitaker (Denzel Washington), who miraculously saves a plane from crashing, but the incident reveals a toxicology screen report that showed his intoxication during that moment, which could result in Whip going to prison on both drug and manslaughter charges.
In Malaysia, it was inevitable that "Skyfall" will be the champion for the weekend gone by. The twenty-third spy film in the James Bond series sees James Bond (Daniel Craig) investigating an attack on MI6 that transpires as part of an attack on M (Judi Dench) by a dangerous villain known as Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem), who claims personal ties to the both of them. In second place is the local film "Budak Pailang", a gangster actioner that tells the coming-of-age story of a boy's initiation into the gang and eventual fights against them. Last but not least is "Paranormal Activity 4", which fell from first place. In Singapore, "Skyfall" is also in first place, followed by the newcomer "House At The End Of The Street" and "Taichi Hero". "House At The End Of The Street" is a horror thriller starring Jennifer Lawrence of "The Hunger Games" as Elissa, who moves into a new upscale neighbourhood with her newly divorced mother, Sarah (Elisabeth Shue), only to discover that years earlier, in the house next door, a daughter named Carrie-Ann killed her parents in their beds and disappeared, leaving only a brother, Ryan (Max Thieriot), as the sole survivor. To make matters worse, Elissa and Ryan begin a relationship against the wishes of Sarah, as Ryan may not be all that he claims he is. The only other new movie that opened over the week in Malaysia is "Zaiton: Ceritaku". New movies that opened over the week in Singapore are "Horror Stories (2D)", "Suddenly It's Magic (2D)" and "Butter(2D)".
