6 Jan – Award-winning director Khairil M. Bahar made an appearance on 4 January along with his cast and crew at TGV Sunway Pyramid, Kuala Lumpur to promote his latest independent movie, "Relationship Status". A Malaysian at heart, Khairil's movie tells the story of a number of KL-ites from all walks of life whose relationships are created, changed, and sometimes even ruined by social networking and the way we communicate in the 21st century. Featuring local stars such as Gavin Yap, Davina Goh, Daphne Iking and Tony Eusoff, the movie is shot at key locations in Kuala Lumpur, such as Hartamas, with the main language being English, peppered with the occasional Malay and Hokkien word or sentence. "I wanted to make my film Malaysian in essence. And just like Malaysia, the country in which the stories in "Relationship Status" are situated in, is multi-ethnic and multilingual. Some of the characters speak English, some speak Malay, and some speak Hokkien," said Khairil. Distributed by TGV, Kenny Wong said that they made the decision to fund the movie because one, he knows Khairil previously, and two, the teaser trailer that was filmed as a proposal was very interesting. Khairil explained, "Bahir and I thought that we want to find a creative way of distributing the film, which is why we approached TGV with a teaser trailer that we shot to show them what we had in mind." "Relationship Status" opened in selected TGV cinemas on 5 January 2012, which included KLCC, Sunway Pyramid, Penang, Ipoh and Johor Bahru.
