1 Aug – The much anticipated reopening of TGV 1 Utama which was initially expected to be open its doors for the public this September, has been postponed to October this year. The cinema that had been closed since February 2011, had undergone extensive renovation work as well as the construction of a new IMAX hall. "The new TGV 1 Utama, will boast a completely new look compared to what it was before. The whole cinema is rebuilt and the IMAX hall is constructed from scratch, unlike the one at TGV Sunway Pyramid which had converted two standard halls into an IMAX hall," said Kenny Wong the CEO of TGV Cinemas. The multiplex will also introduce an additional hall concept known as The Suite, which is TGV's highest class of a luxury cinema concept compared to the rest of their hall concepts. It is comparably a few notches more exclusive than The Club halls currently housed at TGV Sunway Pyramid. TGV 1 Utama's IMAX hall would be the first out of the 7 new IMAX halls TGV plans to open. The chain's first IMAX hall was introduced at TGV Sunway Pyramid in December last year and after the upcoming opening of TGV 1 Utama; following suit would be a third IMAX hall at TGV Aeon Tebrau City, Johor, in December 2012. This year, TGV is expected to open new multiplexes at Cheras Sentral, Kuala Lumpur and Setia Walk, Puchong bringing their total number of cinemas to date up to 19.
