The Rock will be Hercules

Writer: Mitchell Wong

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Luke Hobbs, a cop, in the high-adrenaline action-thriller "Fast Five".

11 Mar – The famous phrase coined in relation to The Rock is best applied here as "Can you smell what The Rock is cooking?" sums up what fans and moviegoers should be anticipating for fresh off his family adventure comedy, "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island", Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has signed on to star as the Greek God Zeus's son, Hercules, according to Star Online.

Brett Ratner, who produced "Rush Hour", is currently working to produce a film adaptation of the graphic novel "Hercules: The Thracian Wars". He depicts The Rock's character as a man-turned-mercenary "who turned his back on the Gods following the loss of his family, finding solace only in battle".

Filming is set to be in New Zealand, in October.

However, this is not the only film that Johnson will be playing mercenary as the 40-year-old has also signed on for the action thriller "Cuidad", which is also based on another graphic novel that is being co-written by the film's directors, Joe and Anthony Russo ("You, Me And Dupree"), with Ande Parks. The film also places the actor as a mercenary, albeit a black market one as opposed to the fabled Hercules, who works for a Brazilian drug lord to rescue his kidnapped daughter.

Johnson will next appear in the sequel "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" alongside "The Vow" star Channing Tatum, and fellow action star Bruce Willis, as well as reprise his role in the sequel "Fast Six" alongside Vin Diesel and director Michael Bay's new crime drama film "Pain and Gain" with Mark Wahlberg.
