2 Mar – Paramount Pictures has officially hired screenwriter Peter Craig, best known for writing the scripts for Ben Affleck's critically-acclaimed 2010 movie, "The Town", to take up a screenwriting role for the sequel to Tom Cruise's 1986 hit, "Top Gun", according to Cinema Blend. A sequel has been in the making since two years ago, and 27 years after the original. It has been confirmed that Tony Scott, the director for the original, will be returning to helm "Top Gun 2", and that the movie will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Skydance Productions. Previously, it has been reported that Cruise will reprise his role as Maverick, although his role will be significantly reduced; only serving as an instructor for the new batch of recruits. However, this has now been said to be merely a rumour, and that it has not been confirmed whether Cruise, will join the team. However, in light of the recruitment of Craig, "Top Gun 2" may just work, as the American novelist-screenwriter was praised for his co-writing effort with Ben Affleck for "The Town", a crime movie based on the novel "Prince Of Thieves" by Chuck Hogan. Fans of "Top Gun" can refresh their memory with a 3D re-release of the movie, although dates for Malaysian and Singaporean release have yet to be confirmed, although it has been believed to be sometime soon.
