19 March – Datuk Seri Michelle Yeoh, who was recently honoured with the Excellence in Asian Cinema Award at the Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong admitted to being aware of rumours of a sequel to "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". However, she has not been approached with any scripts or plans regarding the sequel. To date, Donnie Yen's name have been attached to the next instalment, although there has yet to be any confirmation from the kung fu star. Yeoh was enthusiastic about the idea of working with Yen again as she declares herself to be a big fan. If things do work out, it will be the first time the two will appear onscreen together since 1994's "Wing Chun".
No title has been given yet for the rumoured sequel but it is reported to be based on the fifth book "Silver Vase, Iron Knight" in Wang Du Lu's Crane-Iron series. The film has also been said to start shooting this May despite the lack of cast announcements. Director Ang Lee, who helmed the original Oscar-winning film, has declared that he will not be returning for the instalment but martial arts instructor Yuen Woo Ping is expected to return for the action choreography. "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" had been a surprise international hit in 2000, introducing the wuxia genre to the West and picking up Best Foreign Film in the Academy Awards.
