Disney to make Cruella de Vil film

3 Oct – Three films about the cruel fur-loving villain is not evidently not enough, with Disney currently planning to bring Cruella de Vil to the big screen in another live-action film titled "Cruella".

The scriptwriter for the film is live-action "Cinderella" writer Aline Brosh McKenna, who is known for writing "We Bought A Zoo", "27 Dresses" and "The Devil Wears Prada". Producing the live-action feature is Andrew Gunn, who produced "Sky High" and "Bedtime Stories" for Disney, along with McKenna.

Six-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close, who played the role of Cruella de Vil in the 1996 film "101 Dalmatians" and its sequel "102 Dalmatians", is set to be an executive producer for "Cruella".

Cruella de Vil first appeared in Dodie Smith's 1956 novel "The Hundred And One Dalmatians", but puppy-skinning villain became an icon after the release of Disney's 1961 animated film "One Hundred and One Dalmatians".

"Cruella" is not the only Disney villain to get a film that revolves around her. "Maleficent", a prequel to Walt Disney Animation Studios' 1959 animated adaptation of "Sleeping Beauty" told from the perspective of the villain Maleficent, is also set to hit the big screen in mid-2014. The film will feature Angelina Jolie, Juno Temple, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley and Peter Capaldi. The film is directed by Robert Stromberg, who won two Academy awards for Best Art Director.

Another live-action adaptation in the works for Disney is "Cinderella", which just started filming. Directing the film is Kenneth Branagh who directed 2011's "Thor". The film is expected to be released in 2015.
