17 Oct – Even though Guillermo Del Toro's summer blockbuster film "Pacific Rim" did not do as well as "Iron Man 3", which was the biggest hit of summer this year, "Pacific Rim" did enjoy success globally. The film earned $400 million worldwide. With the international success it had received, Del Toro has announced that he has already begun writing the script to its sequel! "We are writing the sequel. Travis Beacham and I are writing, so that is active," says Del Toro.
Although the Mexican director is currently writing the sequel, he has still yet to receive the green light to continue. "The decision to green light or not, that's definitely above my pay rate," says Del Toro. Travis Beacham is the same man who came up with the idea behind "Pacific Rim" in the first place, and he is working on a number of drafts with Del Toro, so this means there would be no new blood in the writers' room this time around. The decision to green light the sequel has still yet to be confirmed.
