6 Jun – An all-star cast consisting of James Franco, Rachel McAdams, Jeff Bridges, Marion Cotillard, Benicio Del Toro, Paul Rudd and Paul Giamatti may be lending their voices for an animated feature film adaptation of "The Little Prince", to be helmed by "Kung Fu Panda" director Mark Osborne. Written by French aristocrat, writer, poet and pioneering aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the novel is told from the viewpoint of a pilot stranded in the Sahara desert, who meets a young boy claiming to have fallen to Earth from a tiny asteroid, and whom the pilot calls "the little prince". Over the course of eight days, as the pilot attempts to repair his plane, the little prince recounts the story of his life to him. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bridges will voice the pilot, but the roles for the other stars have not been disclosed. It is said that Giamatti and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2" child actress, Mackenzie Foy, are in negotiations for other lead roles.
The book, published as "Le Petit Prince" in 1943, has been translated from French into dozens of languages. It is believed to be the most read and the most translated book in the French language due to its philosophical nature that appeals to both adults and children. The property has already been adapted for both film and TV a number of times, and word is that that Paramount Pictures is coming on to handle distribution in the US.
