5 Jan – Taiwanese idol Godfrey Gao has landed his first major Hollywood role as Magnus Bane, the High Warlock of Brooklyn in the upcoming film adaptation, "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones". Magnus Bane's character is described to have Asian features inherited from his mother who is half Indonesian and half Dutch, leading to an exhaustive search for an actor that matches the description. Gao managed to beat out 70-odd actors to bag the coveted role of the 800-year-old warlock.
The movie is adapted from the book of the same name by author Cassandra Clare, which is the first in the "Mortal Instruments" series. Other actors who are already confirmed to star in the movie include Lily Collins as the titular character Clary Fray. Lena Headey, last seen in "Dredd" as Ma-Ma, will star as Jocelyn Fray, mother to Clary. "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" is scheduled to be released on 23 August this year.
