4 Feb – Together with the upcoming "The Lone Ranger" movie and a rumoured fifth instalment of "Pirates Of The Caribbean", Johnny Depp added another project in his schedule, the mobster film "Black Mass", which is based on the story of Whitey Buglar, who was arrested last year in 2011 after being on the run for more than 10 years and on the FBI's Most Wanted List. The idea of playing a gangster is not new to Depp, since he had previously portrayed the infamous John Dillinger in Michael Mann's "Public Enemies", set in the 1930s.
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, who had collaborated successfully before for "Good Will Hunting" are also developing another film about the same mobster, which would compete against Johnny Depp's movie. "Black Mass", which will be directed by Barry Levinson, will be based on Dick Lehr and Gerald O'Neill's bestselling book, "Black Mass: The True Story Of An Unholy Alliance Between The FBI And The Irish Mob". It will also be interesting to compare Johnny Depp's upcoming performance with Jack Nicholson's character that was based on Buglar in Martin Scorsese's "The Departed". Production for the film is said to be set for this May.
