"Man Of Steel", "Purge" get sequels

A sequel for "Man Of Steel" has been confirmed!

12 Jun – Word is out that "Man Of Steel" is reportedly tracking to open with USD 100 million or more during its first weekend, leading Warner Bros. to green lit a sequel, despite the fact that it has yet to be released at the time this article was written!

Warner Bros. has also decided to keep director Zack Snyder and screenwriter David S. Goyer on for the "Man Of Steel" sequel. David S. Goyer's deal is reportedly part of a three-picture deal that he signed with Warner Bros. for "Man Of Steel", its sequel, and the Justice League film, which is rumoured to be in pre-production.

"The Purge", starring Ethan Hawke, is also expected to have a sequel.

Headlined by Ethan Hawke, "The Purge" was produced for only USD 3 million and released on 7 June in the U.S., and though it was not well received by critics, it still managed to pull a box-office shocker by taking the top spot in its first week with a surprising USD 34.1 million.

This surprising victory has spurred Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures to announce that "The Purge 2" is coming soon.

The futuristic thriller depicts a new American society where the government has sanctioned "the Purge", a 12-hour period in which any and all crime is legalised. Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey play a husband and wife whose family is held hostage for harbouring the target of a murderous syndicate during the Purge.

"Man Of Steel" is coming soon to Malaysia and Singapore theatres on 13 June, while it might still be a long time until Malaysians get to watch "The Purge" as it releases on 22 August. The film will come at a later date for Singaporeans, on 29 August.
