Nafisa Khan commits suicide


Bollywood actress Nafisa Khan died in an apparent suicide at her home on 3 June 2013.
5 Jun - On 3 June 2013, "Housefull" star Nafisa Khan, also known as Jiah Khan, was found dead in her apartment Sagar Sangeet in Juhu, Mumbai. Her death was suspected to be a suicide.

The Bollywood actress' body was found by her mother, but no suicide note has been found. According to the police, "We suspect she hung herself at her home. We are seeking information from her neighbours."

Sources close to the actress mentioned that "She had been depressed for some time due to personal issues, but was keen on returning to acting soon. She was also meeting filmmakers regarding projects."

Her death came as a shock to the film industry, with celebrities like filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma and acting legend Amitabh Bachchan voicing their condolences.

"Never ever seen a debutant actress with more spunk and more spirit than Jiah when I was directing her in "Nishabd"," tweeted Ram Gopal Varma.

"WHAT ...!!! Jiah Khan? What has happened? Is this correct? Unbelievable!!!" tweeted Bachchan.

Born Nafisa Khan in New York, the actress grew up in London before moving to Mumbai for a career in Bollywood. She made her debut in 2007 with Bachchan in "Nishabd", which is inspired by "American Beauty" and the 1986 film "Anokha Rishta". In the film, Nafisa plays Jia, a teenager who attracts the attention of her best friend's father, Vijay, played by Bachchan, and the two begin seeing each other.

Nafisa then went on to star in the 2008 psychological thriller "Ghajini" alongside actor Aamir Khan, which became a box office hit.
