18 Sep – "Riddick" retains the top spot in the Malaysian box office last weekend (12-15 Sept). The Sci-fi flick staring Vin Diesel however loses its top spot in the U.S.
"Riddick" is the continuation of "The Chronicles of Riddick" film franchise about the anti-hero who finds himself up against an alien race of predators.
The film has beaten local newcomers "Vikingdom" and "Legenda Budak Hostel", both of which managed to clench second and third place respectively. "The Internship" played catch up and moved up to fourth place from last week's 17th position, further kicking down "Grown Ups 2" from second to fifth place.
In Singapore however, Disney's "Planes" is on the top of the weekend box office last weekend. The film climbed up from second place last week.
"Riddick", the newcomer in Singapore, and "We're The Millers" were placed second and third respectively and last week's box office ruler "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" shot down to fourth place.
In the United States, newcomer "Insidious: Chapter 2" grabs top position in the box office. The film, which opened on Friday the 13th, is the sequel to James Wan's highly successful horror flick "Insidious".
In second place is fellow newcomer "The Family". Last week's top films "Riddick" and "The Butler" placed in third and fourth place, respectively, knocking down "We're The Millers" to fifth.
Other new films that opened over the weekend in Malaysia are, "Paranoia", "The Flu", and "Closed Circuit".
Other new films that opened over the weekend in Singapore are, "Grand Masti", "Shield of Straw", "The Way, Way Back", "Eli Roth's Aftershock" and "Library Wars".
