S. Shamsuddin passes away

4 Jun – Malaysian comedy actor S. Shamsuddin, famous during the 1950s when he starred in films with P. Ramlee, has passed away just this morning at 10:56am.

This has been confirmed by his daughter, Noredah Shamsuddin, at his place of residency in Bukit Batok Avenue, Jurong, Singapore.

The actor and comedian starred alongside Malaysian cinematic legend Allahyarham Tan Sri P.Ramlee in classics such as "Bujang Lapok, Nujum Pak Belalang", "Hang Tuah", "Panggilan Pulau" and more.

Born on 1 January 1929, the late actor has starred in over 25 films to date, his last film being "Eee... Hantu!!!!!", directed by Majid Salleh.

In 2009, the 22nd Malaysian Film Festival awarded him a special award for Veteran Male Actor. Aziz Satar, the third to make up the trio of "Bujang Lapok" with Shamsuddin and P. Ramlee, had also been honored with the same special award at this year's Malaysian Film Festival.

Shamsuddin was married to Puteh Esmoon in 1954 and they were both blessed with seven children.

One of his children, Ariff Shamsuddin, is a Singaporean comedian TV actor who recently participated in the Malaysian show, "Maharaja Lawak Mega".
