"Star Wars" 3D prequels postponed

Disney has decided to postpone the 3D re-releases of the other two "Star Wars" prequel films.

29 Jan – Those who desires to relive George Lucas's "Star Wars" films in 3D will have to wait longer as Disney is delaying the re-releases of "Attack Of The Clones" and "Revenge Of The Sith" in 3D in favour of focusing their efforts on their upcoming trilogy for the successful sci-fi franchise, according to Huffington Post.

"Given the recent development that we are moving forward with a new Star Wars trilogy, we will now focus 100 percent of our efforts on "Star Wars: Episode VII" in order to ensure the best possible experience for our fans," said Disney, who recently confirmed that "Star Trek" director J.J. Abrams is the director of "Star Wars: Episode VII".

Disney also stated, "We will post further information about our 3D release plans at a later date."

Many parties assumed that Disney's decision might be caused by the lukewarm reception of the 3D re-release of "Phantom Of The Menace" last year, which eventually grossed at USD 43 million in the US.

J.J. Abrams will direct "Star Wars: Episode VII".

Meanwhile, diehard fans of "Star Wars" and even Lucas himself are delighted to see Abrams take up the directing job for the first instalment of the brand new trilogy.

"I've consistently been impressed with J. J. as a filmmaker and storyteller. He's an ideal choice to direct the new "Star Wars" film and the legacy couldn't be in better hands," said Lucas.

"Star Wars: Episode VII" is tentatively set for a 2015 release.
