"Star Wars" original cast confirmed

George Lucas had long enlisted the old team back for "Star Wars".

11 Mar – Casting for the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII" seems to be a mess with the original trio of Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher being reportedly 'on-then-off-then-on'. "Star Wars" creator George Lucas finally stepped up to reveal to Bloomberg Businessweek that the three stars playing Luke Skywalker, Hans Solo and Princess Leia are confirmed to be returning for "Episode VII", and it was agreed long before LucasFilm was sold to Disney.

"We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison – or were pretty much in the final stages of negotiation," Lucas said.

He added: "Maybe I'm not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do."

What will be in store for the original three in the next "Star Wars" instalment?

Previously, Mark Hamill admitted the possibility of the three coming together again for the next "Star Wars" installment on Entertainment Tonight, but stressed that nothing had been signed while Carrie Fisher had claimed her own admission to being on board as a joke.

Harrison Ford had been the only person who had confirmed his involvement via third parties.

J. J. Abrams will pick up directing duties of the first in the new trilogy for "Star Wars". If all goes as planned, fans will be able to watch these iconic characters in 2015.
