4 Sep – Last weekend at the Malaysian box office, (30 August - 2 September) "Elysium" starring Matt Damon scored the top spot, but local film "KL Zombi" managed to beat "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" and reached the second spot! "KL Zombi", adapted from the novel "Zombijaya" by Adib Zaini, tells the tale of a slacker named Nipis who becomes a reluctant hero when a zombie outbreak robs him of the only life he knows. The film stars comedian Zizan Razak as the main hero. The zombie film also managed to beat new films like "Kick Ass 2" and "Tanda Putera" which ended up in fourth and sixth place, respectively.
In Singapore, "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" reached the top spot in the weekend box office chart. In second place lies "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones", and in third place is the Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn film "The Internship". "The Internship" is about two salesmen whose careers have been deemed pointless by the digital age and they find their way into a coveted internship at Google, where they must compete with a group of young, tech-savvy geniuses for a shot at employment. In the U.S., "The Butler" still reigns in first place last weekend and trailing along behind in second place is "One Direction: This is Us", a movie involving the popular British boy band. "We're the Millers", "Planes" and "Instructions Not Included" are in third, fourth and fifth place. Other new movies that opened over the weekend in Malaysia are "Satyagraha", "Ponmaalai Pozhudhu", "Summa Nachunu Irukku", "Pawn Shop", "We're The Millers", "Thanga Meengal", "The Big Wedding", "One Direction: This Is Us" and "Welcome To The Punch". Other new movies that opened over the weekend in Singapore are "Satyagraha", "One Direction: This Is Us (3D)", "The Purge", "Violet And Daisy", "Ilo Ilo", "Last Summer" and "Fruitvale Station ".
