24 Sep – Deanna Yusoff is one of the non-Singaporeans confirmed to star in upcoming Singaporean historical film, "1965". The "Anna and the King" actress will be starring alongside China-born actor Qi Yuwu. The Malaysian actress will be playing the role of a single mother and Qi will be playing a police inspector, New Straits Times Online reported.
The movie tells the story of a young girl that is abducted, which leads to turmoil in the society. Made to commemorate the nation's 50th year of independence, the drama-intense thriller touches on immigrants and shows the fragility of racial harmony, as well as uses a piece of the country's history in the storyline. Randy Ang, who recently directed cop thriller "re:solve", will be helming the project. Supported by the Media Development Authority, "1965" will make its premiere at the newly reopened, and venue partner of the film, Capitol Theatre. The movie will be released next year, in time for SG50 – a celebration of Singapore reaching the big 50. Filming for the movie is reported to start in November.
