Dwayne Johnson to sing in "Moana"


The Rock gets ready to sing in Disney's animated feature.

4 Dec – Disney's "Moana" finally names one confirmed cast, and it is none other than the man who has been sweeping acting offers left and right.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will be lending his voice to the upcoming animated feature, Huffington Post reports, giving life to the legendary demi-God character named Maui.

"Moana", which takes place around 2,000 years ago in Oceania, tells the story of a 14-year-old Polynesian girl who hails from a long line of navigators and is the only daughter of the current chief. She embarks on a sea voyage to try and complete her parents' quest to find a fabled island in the Pacific Ocean. Joining her on her adventure is the demi-God Maui.

The film will be directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, who both previously worked on various other Disney films such as "The Little Mermaid", "Aladdin" and "The Princess and the Frog". It is set for release in 2016.

Johnson appeared in one movie this year, starring as the titular role of "Hercules". It opened at number two in North American cinemas on 25 July 2014 and has since grossed USD4 million in Malaysia while making USD243 million worldwide.

The 42-year-old actor recently announced his participation in New Line's upcoming buddy action-comedy, "Central Intelligence", in which he will be partnering up with "Ride Along" actor Kevin Hart. He is also set to play Black Adam in the upcoming DC superhero movie, "Shazam".

Johnson will be seen next in his 2015 films, "San Andreas" and "Furious 7".
