17 Dec – Following Sony hackers' latest threat on cinemas that screen "The Interview", the film's stars James Franco and Seth Rogen play it smart by cancelling their media appearances for it. The hackers, who in all irony dub themselves "Guardians of Peace", sent a message threatening a 9/11-like attack on not only cinemas but also to anyone who dares to go see the American comedy film, Variety reports.
Due to the threat, Franco and Rogen have withdrawn from making their scheduled appearances on "Watch What Happens Live", "Late Night With Seth Meyers", and "The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon". The duo also cancelled an interview with Yahoo. While Sony Pictures will go on with the planned release, it has also told exhibitors that they can pull the movie from their screening. Carmike Cinemas is the first to take up the offer, a decision likely to be followed by other cinemas. According to Chicago Tribune, the film's New York premiere has been cancelled in light of the threat. "The Interview", a movie about a duo who gets the opportunity to interview North Korea's Kim Jong Un, is set for release in North American cinemas this coming Christmas day.
