A 'Fantastic Beast', Buckbeak meets Harry Potter.

16 Oct – During Time Warner Investor conference, Warner Bros. made an announcement that the company is planning on three spin-off films for the critically acclaimed "Harry Potter" series, based on J.K. Rowling's book, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".

The announcement was made on yesterday in Burbank by Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara who revealed that there will be at least three spin-offs for "Harry Potter" up to 2020, The Verge reported.

"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is about the magical creatures in the "Harry Potter" universe purported to be a textbook owned by Harry Potter and written by 'magizoologist' Newt Scamander.

The name of the textbook (of the same name) was mentioned in the first novel of the "Harry Potter" series, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone".

The film will have Newt Scamander as the main character and it will neither be a sequel or a prequel to the "Harry Potter" series, however it will be set in the same world as the original series. Moreover, the story is set seventy years before the "Harry Potter" series started.

The film adaptation of the novel will be Rowling's screenwriting debut with David Yates, the director of "Harry Potter's" final four films who will direct at least the first instalment of the series.

The trilogy films are scheduled to be released in the years 2016, 2018 and 2020 respectively.
