31 Jul – After continuously claiming the top spot, "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" has finally met its match. "Hercules" has managed to snatch the throne from the apes for the weekend box office chart from 24 to 27 July 2014 in Malaysia and Singapore while landing on second place in the U.S. In U.S., Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson starring "Hercules" lost the first place honour to Scarlett Johansson's "Lucy". Both opening for the first time last weekend, "Lucy" managed to collect a weekend gross of USD43.8 million, beating "Hercules" by approximately USD14 million. Coming in third is the newly dethroned "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" with a total weekend gross of over USD16.7 million.
Over in Malaysia, "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" has slipped to second place as "Hercules" takes the top spot in its first week of release. Last week's first runner-up, "Velaiyilla Pattathari", falls to third place. In Singapore, "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" has also slipped to second place as newly released "Hercules" conquers first place. Another new release, "Ju-On 3: Beginning of the End", takes third place. Movies that opened in Malaysia last week include "Earth To Echo", "Kick", "Thirumanam Enum Nikkah", "Tembus", "Mat Tudung", "The Hidden Treasure" and "Athithi". In Singapore, new releases for last week are "Kick", "Vikramadithyan", "Thirumanam Enum Nikkah", "Third Person", "Minuscule: Valley Of The Lost Ants", "Apolitical Romance" and "Hateship Loveship".
