Lauren Bacall passes away at 89


Lauren Bacall suffered a stroke and passed away Tuesday morning.

13 Aug – With movie fans around the world still saddened by the sudden departure of a great actor, news of yet another great actor's death cast a bigger gloom.

Legendary actress Lauren Bacall was reported to have passed away on Tuesday morning. She was 89.

The actress suffered a massive stroke at her home in New York. Bogart Estate, partly handled by her son Stephen, confirmed the news of her sad passing via Twitter.

The husky-voiced Hollywood starlet was born Betty Joan Perske in Brooklyn. She shot to fame at the tender age of 19, when she starred in "To Have and Have Not" alongside future husband, Humphrey Bogart. They were happily married for over a decade until Bogart passed away from cancer. He was survived by Bacall and their two children, Stephen Humphrey Bogart and Leslie Bogart. Bacall later remarried and had a child named Sam with husband Jason Robards.

The great actress of the Golden Era had a career spanning seven decades. She had starred in various movies, "How to Marry A Millionaire", "The Big Sleep" and "Dark Passage" among others. Her performance in "The Mirror Has Two Faces" earned her a Golden Globe award and an Oscar nomination. She later received an honorary Oscar for her contribution in films.

Bacall made her last silver screen appearance in the 2012 film "The Forger".
