14 Nov – One of the largest film festivals in Taiwan, the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival (TGHFF) has selected Malaysian film, "Lelaki Harapan Dunia" also known as "Men Who Save the World" to participate in its 51st edition under the Asian Window category for the NETPAC Award. Held from 6 to 21 November 2014, the esteemed award ceremony will be showcasing a total of 180 films from all over the world and it will be attended by a number of major Chinese stars such as Gong Li, Tang Wei, Sean Lau, Chen Jianbin, Chang Chen, Ethan Ruan and others. The highlight of the festival is the Golden Horse Awards which is known to be one of the most prestigious film awards in the Chinese-speaking world. Other than TGHFF, "Lelaki Harapan Dunia" is currently competing at the 20th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) from 10 to 17 November 2014, under the Asian Select section along with seven other films. Moreover, the film previously had its world premiere at the Locarno International Film Festival back in August and was in competition under the Filmmakers of the Present category. In September, the film then premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and was chosen for main competition at the Nara International Film Festival in Japan. The film's run continued in October where it participated in the 33rd Vancouver International Film Festival and the 19th Busan International Film Festival as well. "Lelaki Harapan Dunia" focuses on a quaint Malay village which undergoes a series of mishaps that leads to misunderstandings, false accusations and hilarious situations when an on-the-run African immigrant is mistaken for the mythical Malay ghost, Orang Minyak. Directed and written by Liew Seng Tat, the comedy film stars Wan Hanafi Su, Harun Salim Bachik, Soffi Jikan, Jalil Hamid, Azhan Rani and more. "Lelaki Harapan Dunia" is set to release in Malaysia on 27 November 2014.
