"X-Men" writers will pen "Power Rangers" film


The original "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" that premiered back in 1993.

17 Jul – Lionsgate studios have decided to bring back the popular children superhero series, "Power Rangers" to the big screen via a collaboration with the rights holder of the series, Saban Entertainment and "X-Men: First Class" writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz to pen the script of the film.

The studio has tapped on Robert Orci, the writer and producer behind the blockbuster films; "Mission: Impossible III", "Watchmen", "Star Trek", "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen", "Now You See Me", "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" to act as an executive producer for the film.

The original "Power Rangers" series, "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" first premiered in 1993 and it was based on one of the Japanese "Super Sentai" franchise, "Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger" which was the 16th instalment of the franchise.

According to Hollywood Reporter, "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" first aired on Fox Kids channel then later in the 2000s, it was aired on channels owned by Disney. The series ran from 1993 to 1995 with a total of three seasons and a movie, "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie".


"Power Rangers Super Megaforce", the latest instalment of "Power Rangers" franchise.
The creator of the "Power Rangers" franchise, Haim Saban will produce the film together with Saban Brands' head of development and production, Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur, producer of Disney's "Cinderella".

"Power Rangers" is a long-running children television series and it is still in continuous production with the latest being "Power Rangers Super Megaforce" that uses footage from "Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger", recently premiered on 15 February 2014.
