31 Mar – Third time's the charm for director Jack Neo. While the previous instalments of his "Ah Boys to Men" series were big successes, the third instalment is about to beat the records previously set by both. "Ah Boys to Men 3: Frogmen" has managed to beat one, as a matter of fact – surpassing the box office result of the first "Ah Boys to Men". The third movie has managed to collect a whopping RM3.3 million from 74 screens at the box office in Malaysia; and all in just 11 days after its release in the country. This surpasses the first movie's collection of RM2.02 million and will soon take over the RM3.5 million gross of "Ah Boys to Men 2".
"I'm very delighted with the strong support from our friends in Malaysia," says Jack Neo in a statement by mm2 Entertainment. "Besides the humour and touching moments in this movie, there is also a powerful force that energizes you after watching it. Let's strive together! Hooya!" In Singapore, "Ah Boys to Men 3: Frogmen" has collected SGD7.49 million after 39 days, shy of SGD400,000 from the box office record of SGD7.89 million set by "Ah Boys to Men 2". CEO of mm2 Asia Ltd Melvin Ang reveals they plan to release the movie, which tells the story of Singaporean lads who are enrolled in the Naval Diving Unit for their country's National Service, in Hong Kong and Taiwan later this year.
