13 Apr – Filmmakers Yasu Tanaka and Virginia Kennedy have revealed that their respective movies, "Nota" and "Girlfriend Kontrak", are ready to hit the big screen sometime this year. During the press conference for the 2015 Asean International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) in Sarawak, according to The Borneo Post SEEDS, the directors revealed details on their upcoming films. Tanaka's film "Note", which stars the likes of Maya Karin, Hans Isaac, Ramli Hassan and Japanese actress Rin Izumi, is about a couple who goes on a trip to Bako National Park in order to reignite their bond of love and marriage. The film was shot almost entirely in the picturesque Malaysian state. "Sarawak is a really beautiful place," said Tanaka. "We did our shooting here in Bako National Park in 2013 when we came for the first AIFFA, and were amazed by its natural environment here which cannot be found in Japan or any other places in the world." The Japanese filmmaker's sentiment toward the state is echoed by Kennedy, a film director and screenwriter who's had previous experience filming the award-winning "Pua" in Sarawak, a film that took home the Best Short Film Documentary accolade at the 50th Asia Pacific Film Festival in 2005. Her upcoming "Girlfriend Kontrak" by Primeworks Studios, which features Keith Foo and Nur Risteena, tells the story of Aliza, a village girl who goes against a millionaire playboy to save her fireflies from being destroyed by his development project, but ends up getting hired as his "contract girlfriend". "Nota" will be screened at the Marchu du Film 2015 this 13 May while "Girlfriend Kontrak" will be in theatres this July. (Photo source: seeds.theborneopost.com)
