Chinese remake of "My Best Friend's Wedding"


Shu Qi will play the lead role of the Chinese remake "My Best Friend's Wedding".

24 May – Sony Pictures and China Film Co. Ltd. are working together to develop the Chinese remake of the famous American comedy "My Best Friend's Wedding" which starred Julia Roberts.

The remake is set to begin shooting by the end of July in London, Italy and Beijing, and is scheduled to be released in China for next year's Valentine's day.

The upcoming film will star "Journey to the West" actress Shu Qi, "The Golden Era" actor Feng Shaofeng, Chinese singer Victoria Song and "Man of Tai Chi" actress Ye Qing.

Alexi Tan will direct the film which will be produced under his own company Play Productions, with the script written by Hong Jiu, Fu Linran and Alexi Tan himself, Variety reports.

The original 1997 "My Best Friend's Wedding" which starred Julia Roberts Cameron Diaz, Dermot Mulroney and Rupert Everett, was a global box-office hit and one of the highest grossing films of 1997, with almost USD300 million collected worlwide.

The remake will follow a pair of male and female childhood best friends. When the male friend decides to get married with a wealthy girl, he asks his female best friend to be his "best man". However, the female friend soon realises that she loves him and not just as a friend. She then sets out to win him back with only a few days before the wedding.
