"Hunger Games" prequels might be happening

If the prequels are happening, will the lead be better than Jennifer Lawrence?

9 Dec – When a movie franchise becomes phenomenal, it is expected that movie studios would want to keep the momentum going – that is what is happening to "The Hunger Games" right now as talks of possible prequels of the hit franchise are underway.

Following the footsteps of the "Harry Potter" series which will also see the release of its first prequel film, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" next year, Lionsgate's entertainment vice chairman Michael Burns wants "Hunger Games" to "live on and on and on".

While it is unsure what sort of story the prequels would be based on, they would definitely go back to the original "The Hunger Games" plot with battle arenas and competitions, which is what the first "The Hunger Games" movie started out as.

"The one thing that kids say they missed [from the early "Hunger Games" films] was there were no arenas," Burns said at UBS Global Media and Communications Conference in New York as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.

The statement refers to the battle grounds where the tributes from each district fought each other to the death, which the later "Hunger Games" films after the second, didn't cover much of.

Burns also noted that the prior films only covered the 74th and 75th edition of the competitions in the fictional world of Panem, "If we went backwards, there obviously would be arenas."
