Idris Elba wants to be "The Alchemist"


Idris Elba may work on "The Alchemist" adaptation.

5 Jun – Idris Elba and Laurence Fishburne are reportedly in talks with The Weinstein Company for a big-screen adaptation of Paulo Coelho's bestselling novel, "The Alchemist".

Laurence is said to direct while Elba is in negotiations to star in the movie adaptation, according to Deadline. If the deal goes through, filming is expected to begin in 2016.

"The Alchemist" tells of a young Spaniard who is in search of hidden treasure within the Egyptian pyramids.

The novel currently holds the Guinness world record for most translated work by a living author as it has been translated into 56 different languages, selling more than 65 million copies.

Fishburne has wrapped up filming for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", which will be released in cinemas in March next year.

Elba was most recently seen as Heimdall in "Avengers: Age of Ultron", the second highest-grossing movie of 2015 with its USD1.3 billion worldwide gross. He is expected on screen next in Justin Lin's "Star Trek 3" and Cary Fukunaga's "Beasts of No Nation", among others.
