15 Apr – A guy named Peter Gallagher is suing "Avengers" director Joss Whedon for allegedly stealing the ideas for his 2012 horror film, "The Cabin in the Woods". According to TMZ, Gallagher claims that "The Cabin in the Woods" is similar to one of his novels entitled "The Little White Trip: A Night In The Pines" which was registered five years before Whedon's movie was released. Gallagher is suing Whedon for copyright infringement of at least 25 similar scenes from his novel and is seeking damages in excess of USD 10 million.
Some of the similarities include the characters; which are three males and two females, two similar character names and personalities, a story that takes place in the same venue, which is a cabin and also the storyline, which is about the characters being manipulated and filmed as players in a real-life horror show. In the complaint, Gallagher claims he self-published the novel with the Writers Guild and describes the effort he put in to sell his novels on the sidewalks of Santa Monica, CA, which is also the city where Whedon lives.
