"Looking for Alaska" finds new director

Rebecca Thomas is the new "Looking for Alaska" director.

27 Jun – The big screen adaptation of "Looking for Alaska" has long been in the making, but a few snags along the way have led to the project repeatedly looking for a helmer.

Author John Green took to Twitter recently to announce that the project will finally be back on track, this time with American filmmaker Rebecca Thomas attached to direct in place of Canadian actress and film director, Sarah Polley.

Before Polley, "The OC" producer Josh Schwartz was to write and direct the adaptation but later pulled out due to lack of interest on his part.

This will be Thomas' biggest gig to date, whose resume includes 2009's "Ivan Sings", 2012's "Electrick Children" and yet-to-be-released 2015 movie, "Las Vegas, West".

"Looking for Alaska", which revolves around a 16-year-old boy named Miles Halter and a reckless girl named Alaska Young, is Green's debut novel. Paramount bought the rights for it in 2005 but waited until "The Fault in Our Stars" became a big hit before moving forward with the adaptation.

"The Fault", starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, opened in cinemas last year and managed to gross USD307.2 million worldwide.

Green's next young adult novel to be adapted is "Paper Towns", starring Nat Wolff and Cara Delevingne, which will get its release this 23 July.
