Katniss and the gang returns in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2".

24 Nov – "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2" opened at number one at the U.S., Malaysia and Singapore weekend box office for 19 to 22 November 2015.

However, despite this being the much-anticipated final part of the third and last instalment of the "The Hunger Games" franchise, the movie debuted with disappointing figures at the box office, when compared to its 2014 predecessor.

Last year's "Mockingjay – Part 1" was the biggest opening of 2014 as it made USD273.8 million worldwide gross on its opening weekend. "Part 2" managed to gross USD247 worldwide so far. In the U.S., "Part 2" has become the lowest opening for the franchise as it only collected USD102.6 million on its opening weekend, based on Box Office Mojo stats.

If the Jennifer Lawrence-led movie fails to gross over USD700 million worldwide by the end of its run, it will become the lowest-grossing movie in the franchise. The first "The Hunger Games" movie, released in 2012, currently is the lowest with USD694.4 million worldwide gross against its USD78 million budget.

Each instalment released following the first movie has since grown not only in budget, but also collection, making "The Hunger Games" the 19th highest-grossing franchise of all time with its USD2.5 billion worldwide gross to date.

Meanwhile, the third highest-grossing franchise, "James Bond", has its 24th instalment "Spectre" sitting tight at number two, down a spot from its previous placing. The Daniel Craig-starrer made another USD15 million in the U.S. last weekend, rounding up its worldwide collection to USD667.3 million.

Down a spot to number three is the 3D animated comedy movie, "The Peanuts Movie". Last weekend, it made USD13.2 million in the U.S. Yet to open in countries such as Malaysia and Singapore, the movie adaptation of Charles M. Schulz's comic strips, "Peanuts" has already made USD109.1 million worldwide.

It's a rough time for "Spectre" as it gets knocked off the top spot.

Malaysian moviegoers are also hungry for the continuation of last year's "Mockingjay", as "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2" managed to open at number one. Sam Mendes' "Spectre" was demoted to number two while Tamil movie "Vedalam" was pushed down to number three.

Similarly, the former top three movies in Singapore are also each pushed down a rung when "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2" entered the scene at number one. This means "Spectre" too had to let go of the top spot and settle instead at number two. Down one place to number three is the Taiwanese movie "Our Times".

Other new movies that opened in Malaysia last weekend are "The Hallow", "Ex Files 2: The Backup Strikes Back" and "Ada Apa Dekat Bus Stop".

Singapore's new releases last weekend include "Arpeggio Of Blue Steel - Ars Nova - Cadenza", "The 33", "The Program" and "Bakuman".
