No Stewart and McKellen in "X-Men: Apocalypse"

Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart.

19 Jan – Patrick Stewart, or Professor X himself, confirmed in an interview with Larry King that he will not be returning in the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse" movie.

"It is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters. And so I don't think we'll be making an appearance," Stewart told King, as reported by Comingsoon.net.

Director Bryan Singer has previously mentioned that the upcoming movie will be set in the 1980s, taking place a decade after the events of "X-Men: Days of Future Past", and will be featuring some younger versions of the familiar characters.

Elle Fanning, Chloe Grace Moretz and Ben Hardy are just some of the young actors reportedly being eyed for the roles of the younger X-Men.

Filming for the next movie is expected to start in April in Montreal, but looks like this time not only will Stewart not be making an appearance, neither will Ian McKellen be reprising his role as Erik Lehnsherr a.k.a. Magneto.

Last year's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" was arguably the best movie in the popular franchise, with it receiving critical acclaim and becoming the highest grossing of all the "X-Men" movies. It opened on 23 May at number one in North American cinemas and has made a worldwide gross of USD748 million. In Malaysia it made USD6.6 million in total and in Singapore USD7.4 million.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" hits North American cinemas on 27 May 2016.
