Not Sam Smith, maybe Ellie Goulding for "Bond" theme

Sam Smith denies landing the "James Bond" theme song deal.

6 Jul – Despite earlier reports claiming that the English crooner has landed himself a "James Bond" theme song deal, Sam Smith recently denied any involvement with the mega franchise.

"People seem to think I'm doing it but I have no idea what's going on," said the 23-year-old in an interview with Capital FM, as quoted by NME. "I'm being deadly serious. I think I would know by now."

It was previously reported that Smith beat the likes of Lana Del Rey, Ed Sheeran, One Direction and Rita Ora for the theme song deal. However, reports are now singing a different tune, possibly an EDM-heavy track especially after Smith tipped, "I heard Ellie Goulding was going to do it, it's definitely not me."

Had the deal gone to Smith, he would've joined the list of other British male solo singers who over the years have contributed to the "James Bond" theme song, such as Paul McCartney, who was featured in Wing's 1973 "Live and Let Die", and Tom Jones, who sang the 1965 "Thunderball".

The last "James Bond" theme, "Skyfall", was sung by fellow British singer Adele for the same name 2012 movie, and went on to win the franchise's first-ever Academy Award for best original song.

The 24th "James Bond" movie, subtitled "Spectre", sees the return of Daniel Craig as the titular spy, with Sam Mendes also back in the director's chair.

"James Bond: Spectre" infiltrates cinemas on 6 November 2015.
