Paul Thomas Anderson pens "Pinocchio" to life

Paul Thomas Anderson to write live-action "Pinocchio" script.

4 Jul – When he isn't busy portraying Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jr. is busy developing his own live-action take of "Pinocchio".

Recent update from The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the actor has found a new scribe for the movie, namely a good friend of his, filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.

Anderson will be taking over from 2014's "The Giver" writer Michael Mitnick, who penned the most recent draft of the script. Apart from writing, the six-time Oscar nominee could also be directing as he has helmed every movie he's written thus far.

"Pinocchio" tells the story of a puppet come to life.

Anderson and Downey Jr. previously came close to working together when the latter was set to star in the former's 2014 crime comedy drama, "Inherent Vice", but was replaced with Joaquin Phoenix because of his commitment to "Avengers: Age of Ultron" at the time.

Downey Jr. will be reprising his Marvel superhero character in the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War".

Other than "Pinocchio", the big screen will be welcoming an onslaught of live-action adaptations in the near future, which includes Emma Watson-led "Beauty & the Beast", Jon Favreau's "Jungle Book", Benedict Cumberbatch-led "Jungle Book", Tim Burton's "Dumbo" as well as Reese Witherspoon's and Melissa McCarthy's separate versions of "Tinker Bell".
