30 Oct – Lead actor Shaheizy Sam was confident action movie "Polis Evo" would beat the box office collection of "The Journey" – and indeed it has.

"Polis Evo", directed by Ghaz Abu Bakar and released on 17 September, recently collected a whopping RM17.3 million after just 42 days of screening in 83 cinemas across Malaysia and Brunei.

"Due to the success, "Polis Evo" has now become the yardstick of the local movie industry," said Vice President and Head of Astro Shaw, Najwa Abu Bakar.

This beats the previous record set by another Astro Shaw production, the award-winning Chiu Keng Guan-directed "The Journey", which made RM17.28 million last year and was the highest-grossing local production of all time before being overtaken by the action movie.

Shaheizy Sam and co-star Zizan Razak have taken to social media to share the good news with their fans. Both the stars posted similar messages thanking their fans for supporting the movie.

"We would like to say THANK YOU to all of you who have supported "Polis Evo" and made us No.1!" The actors posted on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Chiu might have a chance to reclaim the top spot with his upcoming movie, "OlaBola", a sports drama highlighting the glory days of Harimau Malaya from the 1970s to the 1980s.

The movie is part of Astro Shaw production lineup for 2016, which also includes Osman Ali's "Langit Cinta".

"Polis Evo" is currently still going strong, showing in 71 cinemas nationwide.
