13 Jan – "Taken 3", the third and final instalment of the "Taken" trilogy debuts at first place in Malaysia, Singapore and U.S. for the weekend of 8 to 11 January 2015. In U.S., "Taken 3" took over last weekend's box office dominance in its opening week with a collection of USD39.2 million. Meanwhile, historical drama "Selma" moves from number twenty-fourth to an impressive second where the film grossed over USD 11.3 million.
Disney's musical "Into the Woods" which only managed to gross USD 9.5 million in North America, falls from second place to third place in last weekend's box office. "Taken 3" also takes the first spot in Malaysia proving that Liam Neeson has dedicated fans in the country, while previous champion "Seventh Son" falls to second place with "Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb" sliding down to third place. Similarly, "Taken 3" dominates the box office chart in Singapore for last weekend's collection, while "Seventh Son" was pushed from first to third place. The third and final instalment of "Night at the Museum" trilogy remains at second place for the second week running. Also opening in Malaysia last weekend are the movies; "Tevar", "The Eyes Diary", "Romeo Kota: Kes Fail Kriptik", "The Rewrite", "The Taking of Tiger Mountain" and "Theory of Everything". Other new movies that opened in Singapore last weekend are; "Ugly", "Mr. Turner", "The Taking of Tiger Mountain", "Tevar", "Young Ones", "Theory of Everything", "Bring Back the Dead" and "Second Chance".
